Help Stroud tackle the climate emergency

Solar energy is now one of the most cost-effective ways to reach net zero carbon emissions.

We want to create a solar farm near Whitminster to:

Meet the annual energy needs of 15,000 homes

Displace 858,280 tonnes of CO2 from equivalent fossil fuel energy generation during the solar farm’s lifespan

Enhance local biodiversity and landscape

A planning application has been submitted for Moreton Lane Solar Farm a 49.9 megawatt (MW) solar farm and 49.9 MW battery storage facility near Whitminster. Temporary permission is sought for 40 years.

Climate change

CO2 levels have increased by more than 40% since before the industrial revolution. The main contribution to this is burning fossil fuels for energy.

Climate change is happening. 13 of the 14 warmest years on record have occurred in the 21st century and in the last 30 years each decade has been hotter than the previous one.

Biodiversity

We’ll significantly improve the natural habitat with new trees, hedgerows, species rich grassland and wildflower margins.

Battery storage

To fully utilise the network connection capacity, the farm will include battery storage to store energy for times of peak demand.
