Help Basingstoke tackle the
climate emergency

Solar energy is now one of the most cost-effective ways to reach net zero carbon emissions.

A planning application has been submitted for Roundhill Solar Farm, a 49.9 megawatt (MW) temporary solar installation and battery energy storage system (BESS) on land south of Earls Common Road. Temporary permission is sought for 40 years but we need your help to make this happen.

JBM, a part of RWE, are proposing a new solar and battery farm on land south of Earls Common Road to:

Energy icon

Meet the annual energy needs of over 18,000 homes

Fossil fuel icon

Displace over 1.7 million tonnes of CO2 from equivalent fossil fuel energy generation during the solar farm’s lifespan

Biodiversity icon

Enhance the local natural habitat by providing considerable biodiversity and ecological benefits such as a community orchard and landscaping enhancements.

Climate change

CO2 levels have increased by more than 40% since before the industrial revolution. The main contribution to this is burning fossil fuels for energy.

Climate change is happening. 13 of the 14 warmest years on record have occurred in the 21st century and in the last 30 years, each decade has been hotter than the previous one.

Biodiversity

We’ll significantly improve the natural habitat with new hedgerows and wildflower meadows as well as beehives, bat roost boxes, a community orchard and much more.

Battery storage

To fully utilise the network connection capacity, the farm will include battery storage to store energy for times of peak demand.
